The Budock Vean Hotel raises funds for Cornish communities

Leading Cornish hotel, the Budock Vean on the Helford River, is raising funds for Cornwall Community Foundation (CCF) to support Cornish communities in need. During 2019 guests have been invited to make an optional donation at check out, resulting in a cheque for £3,212.66 presented to the Cornwall Community Foundation.

Hotel owner, Martin Barlow, is also arranging a Gin and Jazz evening on Friday 13 March to raise additional funds.  Martin Barlow, said, “We are delighted to have raised so much in our first year of running the guest donation scheme. Our guests have enjoyed a wonderful experience holidaying in Cornwall and are pleased to donate when we explain that alongside the beautiful Cornwall, there are people who really struggle. By donating they help local community groups and people.  Our Gin and Jazz evening will be a great social event and all proceeds will be donated to the Foundation.”

As well as running the donation scheme and arranging Gin and Jazz, the Budock Vean Hotel is a member of the CCF, a group of businesses committed to supporting their local communities.  Members each make an annual donation that is pooled to form the Business Club Fund, managed by CCF. Local community groups apply to the Fund for support for their projects. At its most recent Grant Panel meeting, the Business Fund awarded more than £24,000 to 11 Cornish community groups.  Members also meet regularly to share best practice and work together to strengthen Cornish communities.

Jo Riley, CCF Philanthropy Director, commented, “We are very grateful to the Budock Vean Hotel for all their fund raising for the Foundation.  The Hotel’s guest donation scheme and the Gin and Jazz evening are great examples of a Business Club member taking the initiative and raising substantial funds above and beyond their core membership subscription.”
