Pledge for Nature: Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Local Nature Partnership

We are delighted to be supporting the Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Local Nature Partnership, a fantastic collaboration of local partners working together to champion the value of nature, for the benefit of the environment, people and economy. We have joined 112 individuals, 16 businesses, 35 organisations and 11 community groups to make a Pledge for Nature, a cause to help support the local area by agreeing to continue to make positive steps to protect the environment here at Budock Vean.

Studies show that a million species are at threat globally, and the UK is one of the most nature-depleted countries in the world. Whilst Cornwall & the Isles of Scilly may look green, the county has suffered many local extinctions too – and many of its most important species are now at threat.

We support Cornwall and Isles of Scilly’s ambition that at least 30% of its land, river and seas are well managed for nature by 2030 and will take action to help protect, enhance, create and restore local nature-rich areas, whilst also reducing pressures on the environment.

Our Pledge for Nature:

1) Restore the wild areas around our ponds to allow a richer habitat for wildlife.
2) Create wildflower “islands” in our formal lawns to attract pollinators.
3) Grow our own fruit and vegetables for our hotel restaurant which will help reduce some food mileage.
4) Continue to work with local schools, teaching them about sustainable horticultural practices through workshops and practical activities.
