20th / 21st Anniversary

A weekend of celebrations at the hotel; a lovely big party for local suppliers and supporters; additional fundraising events for the charities the hotel supports and a staff party at the beach … these were some of the things we had started to arrange to mark the 20th anniversary of Martin taking the Budock Vean reins from his father. The anniversary fell in June 2020 and of course, little were we to know how the world would change, we hit pause on all that (and more).

However, never ones to let a good excuse for a celebration be swept under the carpet we’ve had our thinking caps on and our reimagined milestone plans are starting to emerge. Refiled under 21st anniversary celebrations our first project gets us all nostalgic.

Lockdowns 1, 2 and 3 have had us doing all sorts to keep ourselves occupied. We’ve seen pristine cutlery draws, plenty of baking and a fair bit of sorting and clearing out … and that’s where this project comes in. We’d love your help to uncover more BV memories. We’ve found menus from the 1950s, quizzes from the 80s and photos going back years and years. We would love to hear stories of your stays with us, your holidays, Christmasses, dinners, outings, weddings and more. Send us anything you’d like to share to events@budockvean.co.uk and we will gather, collate and share, of course, photos are very welcome.

Alongside our memories project we’re investing volunteering hours and some money to help local environmental group Clean Ocean Sailing clear up Anna Maria Creek, just down the road from us, this spring. And we’re re-scheduling a large fundraising event for Cornwall Community Foundation in early 2022.

Of course, celebrating 7,665 days steering the good ship BV does deserve a proper knees-up and, when the time is right and it is safe to do so, we’ll be putting that champagne on ice and hitting the dancefloor.
