Seaweed Pressing Workshop with The Seaweed Institute

Ruth and Kerry from The Seaweed Institute bring their seaweed pressing workshop to Budock Vean on Wednesday 26th April.

During the workshop you’ll learn the craft of seaweed pressing – a Victorian practice that captures the underwater beauty of seaweeds and you’ll be taught how to recognise and identify local seaweed species. The cultural history of seaweeds will be discussed, as well as its agricultural, scientific and ecological uses. You will learn how to forage, store and use this abundant resource.

After laying out your designs they will be loaded into a special seaweed press where they will dry over the next weeks. You will be able to collect the pieces from their Penryn studio at a later date or alternatively they can be posted to you.

This workshop, hosted by The Seaweed Institute, will be held in the river room down at Budock Vean’s private foreshore, which is a short walk through the beautiful hotel gardens.

Your afternoon will start at 2pm when we will meet at our hotel reception before walking together down to our river room. Numbers are limited so please book early. Tickets include tea, coffee and cake, and toilet facilities are also available to guests at our foreshore.
