Meet The Team

Darryl

When he's not taking the helm and making sure that every guest experience is one where memories are made, you can find Darryl exploring the area on his electric bike or singing in one of Cornwall’s largest and oldest male voice choirs.
…enjoying a quiet pint in one of Cornwall’s tucked-away pubs, or taking a sea dip followed by a sauna – usually at nearby Gyllyngvase or Swanpool Beach, close to where I live. I also love zipping around the area on my electric bike, especially heading up to Pendennis Point to watch the activity on the water – the cruise ships passing through Falmouth Bay have become quite a sight in recent years.
I have a real passion for singing and am currently a proud member of one of Cornwall’s largest and oldest male voice choirs – the Nankersey Male Choir – as well as a smaller group made up mainly of ex-local sportsmen called Eight in a Bar!
I love hopping on a boat to St Mawes – it always feels like a mini holiday. But I also enjoy a good stroll (and a pint!) in Porthleven – it’s full of character and has some great spots to stop and take it all in.
James

As Food & Beverage Operations Manager, James makes sure everything runs smoothly from start to end to ensure you enjoy your dining experience at Budock Vean Hotel & Spa.
Helping out on my parent's equestrian farm!
The Helford Garden
Blending Budock Vean Gin with elderflower liqueur, crisp cucumber, and apple juice, it’s a light, floral drink that captures the spirit of our beautiful surroundings.
I recently visited Paul Ainsworth at No.6, Padstow - I highly recommend if you're ever in the area!
It would definitely have to be Watergate Bay on the North Cornwall coast.

Phil

Phil is our dedicated Head Gardener at Budock Vean Hotel & Spa, bringing passion and expertise to every corner of the grounds. With a deep love for nature and years of experience, he ensures the gardens are always looking their best, whatever the season.
All depends on the time of year, the valley is a beautiful place to be during April and May with all of the different colours on show but the foreshore on a nice summers day is hard to beat.
When I'm not working I'm either in the sea freediving and snorkelling or fishing from one of the local beaches. At weekends I like to visit National Trust gardens to get inspiration with my two daughters.
Land's End has some beautiful, quiet little beaches if you're happy to do a little walking to find them!
I honestly don't get to go on holiday very often but my parents live in the south west of France so do get to go there and explore that part of the world.
Wendel

Wendel has been an integral part of the Budock Vean Hotel team since 2005, bringing dedication and a warm presence to her role as Assistant Reception Manager. As one of the first faces you’ll see upon arrival, she plays a key role in creating a welcoming atmosphere for all our guests.
My passion for acting from school - the reception counter is my stage where I strive to give my best, no matter the situation.
The foreshore at Budock Vean Hotel & Spa - Perran Cove.
Running my own little shop!
Spending time with Big Cheese - my husband, Monkees - my grandchildren, Peanut - my dog and Netflix.

Bronwyn

Bronwyn began her journey at Budock Vean Hotel & Spa as a Spa Therapist and has since worked her way up to the role of Head of Health Spa. Her dedication and passion for wellness have been instrumental in shaping the exceptional spa experience we offer.
The spa’s tranquil and relaxing atmosphere makes each day a pleasure. Contributing to our guests' positive wellbeing is incredibly rewarding.
Going for a dip in the sea, listening to music, and enjoying a good stretch and breath session.
There are so many wonderful aspects! Being close to the ocean, enjoying the salty air, and experiencing the slower pace of life.
Be present in everything you do to appreciate life more and discover the small gems in everyday moments. And if you can, make time to journal!
Joseph

Joe began his career at Budock Vean Hotel & Spa as an Apprentice Chef de Partie, studying at The Cornwall College Group. Joe has since completed his training with a distinction in his City & Guilds qualifications and also won South West Apprentice of the Year in 2023. Joe is now a fully qualified Chef de Partie and a valued full-time member of our Kitchen team.
Playing racing games and spending quality time with my family!
Being spoiled for choice with stunning beaches and delicious pasties.
Simple, burgers - classic and satisfying!
I’d cook for Sir Lewis Hamilton and chat about all things racing. I’d prepare something vegan for him.
