Meet the team: A Q&A with Ottilie

At Budock Vean Hotel & Spa, warm welcomes come naturally. Our team are at the heart of every stay, helping to create those little moments that make a holiday feel truly memorable. We caught up with Ottilie from our reception team to find out what makes her role – and life at our hotel – so unique.

What’s the best part of your role?

I love welcoming guests and helping to make their stay that little bit extra special whenever I can. It’s lovely being part of someone’s holiday story.

Morning shift or evening shift?

I prefer morning shifts. I enjoy getting up early and starting the day afresh. Mornings feel calm, positive and usually a little more consistent, which I like.

Favourite spot on the property?

My favourite spot is our private foreshore. It’s so peaceful being near the water, surrounded by nature. It’s a lovely place to pause and take everything in.

What's your go-to local recommendation?

Trebah Garden is only a couple of minutes’ drive or a 10-minute walk away. There is a lovely café and beautiful walks through the garden to the beach.

What makes Budock Vean special?

I love the mix of old and new here. There is a traditional feel to the hotel with modern comforts and an easy-going atmosphere.

What’s something that always makes guests smile when they arrive?

The warmth of the welcome from the team. People often feel relaxed the moment they arrive.

Favourite memory so far?

There was a guest who was visiting Cornwall for the first time and I decorated their room with Cornish flags to help make their stay feel extra special. Seeing their reaction was wonderful.

What's your favourite season here?

My favourite season is spring.  Seeing all the flowers bloom across the garden is amazing and the warmer weather is lovely.

What's one thing guests are always surprised by?

I think the guests are surprised by how beautiful and secluded the location is. Even some of the local guests don’t realise how hidden and peaceful it is here.

Wild swimming or exploring on foot?

A bit of both! I enjoy a sea dip, but I also enjoy walking and discovering the secret, quiet corners of the local area. There are so many beautiful spots to find.
