Watercolour painting of white flowers with yellow centres and green leaves against a blue and green textured background.

Step into a world of colour, creativity, and calm with artist Shari Arnott, whose passion for watercolour and nature comes alive in her inspiring painting breaks.

Immersed in art from an early age, Shari brings a lifetime of experience and enthusiasm to her teaching. With a garden studio nestled in the picturesque Tamar Valley – a landscape rich with wildlife, changing light, and endless inspiration – her work is deeply rooted in the natural world. This connection to nature informs not only her art but the way she shares it with others.

Shari’s residential painting courses at Budock Vean Hotel & Spa are designed to be both enjoyable and enriching, with a strong seasonal influence reflected in each session. Guests are encouraged to explore the stunning hotel grounds for subject matter, while Shari also provides a curated selection of visual references and materials to spark imagination and get the paint flowing.

These relaxed, friendly courses offer ample opportunity to delve into the expressive qualities of watercolour, particularly the “wet into wet” technique – ideal for capturing soft light, subtle blends, and the organic forms of the natural world. Shari gently guides participants through methods to suggest texture, pattern, and finer details, helping each artist find their own rhythm and voice with the medium.

Whether you’re completely new to watercolour or looking to grow your skills in a nurturing environment, Shari’s workshops promise a rewarding and mindful artistic experience. With an emphasis on exploration over perfection, her approach encourages confidence, curiosity, and a deeper connection to the creative process.

Beyond her teaching, Shari is a regular exhibitor with the Drawn to the Valley group of artists and participates in Open Studios Cornwall. She holds weekly classes near her home and leads residential art retreats in both Cornwall and Somerset. Her watercolours and ceramics are exhibited at The Bullpen Gallery at the National Trust’s Cotehele House, where the natural surroundings echo the themes found in her work.
