BUDOCK VEAN HOTEL ACCESS STATEMENT

At Budock Vean, we are committed to ensuring that all our guests are given a warm welcome and their needs are catered for effectively. It is vital we make every effort to ensure we are aware of any guests who have any special needs or disabilities, in order to ensure that their stay at the hotel is as enjoyable as possible.

It is our aim that guests with special requirements do not feel that they are discriminated against in any way and they are welcomed in the same way in which we deal with all our guests.

We are committed to ensuring that all potential guests are made fully aware of the hotel's physical layout and of the facilities and style of the hotel, so that they can make a fully informed decision as to whether Budock Vean is the kind of place they wish to spend their holiday.  We understand that not everyone prefers, for example, to wear a jacket and tie for dinner, so we have made an alternative dining arrangement available.

Two of the Hotel Directors and 9 senior staff have attended the ‘Welcome All' Course.  The course heightened our awareness and explained how we may be able to assist on a personal level in the hotel.   Skills learnt from this course have been passed to all staff to ensure that they are sensitive to guests needs and they are happy and able to assist guests in any way they can.

It is our policy to conform to all the relevant legislation.

THE HOTEL

The oldest part of Budock Vean was built over 150 years  ago and since it first became a hotel in 1934, it has seen substantial further development.  The result is that public areas are spread over more than one level and access to certain facilities is limited.

Although we have undertaken to adapt certain areas of the hotel to try to overcome any physical barriers and limitations that the design and layout have created, some physical limitations do still exist.

We would like all our potential guests to be aware that we do not have any ground floor hotel bedrooms, although we do have three self-catering cottages in the hotel grounds where all the rooms in each are on the ground floor.  The main hotel does however posses a lift which provides access to 46 out of our 57 bedrooms.  (There are no steps between the lift and any of these bedrooms)  Of these bedrooms, 18 are within 10 metres of the lift and a further 12 bedrooms are within an additional 16 metres

WHEELCHAIR USERS

Guests who are wheelchair bound will find that access to some of our facilities is restricted.  However our aim is to ensure that all guests are offered assistance where appropriate and on arrival, that the appropriate ramps are provided to ease access wherever feasible.  In addition, our Restaurant Manager will be made aware of specific needs so that guests can be seated appropriately and we ensure that trained staff are readily available to assist them where required.  Guests will be offered assistance in a discreet and courteous manner and only when it is appropriate (i.e. with regards to the navigation of stairs, opening of doors).

Where people have a mobility issue which does not restrict them to a wheelchair we will endeavour to provided them with a bedroom which is easily accessible (i.e. near the lift or on the 1st Floor).  Reception will inform  the Restaurant, so that appropriate seating arrangements are made.

VISUALLY IMPAIRED GUESTS

Where guests are visually impaired, our aim is always to provide the guest with accommodation which is easily located and the Restaurant will be advised of the guests needs.  Menus with larger print can be prepared or alternatively when menus are distributed, assistance can be provided in reading the menu if guests are unaccompanied.

GUESTS WITH HEARING IMPAIRMENTS

We would ask guests with any hearing impairments to advise Reception, so that we can ensure that relevant staff are aware of their needs particularly in the event of a Fire evacuation.

To ensure that all our potential guests have a clear understanding of the facilities available at Budock Vean, please do read our document entitled "For the Information of Guests with Special Requirements".
