5 Star Holiday Homes

Budock Vean Hotel Cornwall - new 5 star holiday homes

VisitEngland awards 5 Stars and a Gold Award to Budock Vean’s new Helford River Boltholes

VisitEngland, the country’s national tourist board, has awarded its top rating of 5 Stars with a Gold Award to the first of the Budock Vean Hotel’s new luxury holiday homes on Cornwall’s Helford River.

Already first guests at “Grebe” and “August Rock” have been overwhelmed by the triumph of great vision and design in glorious surroundings - with cool, sleek interiors and floor to ceiling glass overlooking gardens, woods and fairways.

Now Visit England inspectors, awarding their highest accolade, have judged the new houses to be “furnished and presented to an excellent standard (with) ample parking and generous outdoor seating areas…situated in an ideal rural spot close to the town of Falmouth.”

Along with top to toe views across 65 acres of tumbling lawns and gardens the first two of the new houses – which were bought off plan - give owners and the guests full use of the hotel’s luxurious pool complex, golf course and tennis courts - all set in this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

The three-bedroomed houses are also on the doorstep of the Budock Vean’s famous bar and restaurant – one of the region’s best with specialities including local seafood and game – and the hotel’s Natural Health Spa.

“We are completely thrilled that Visit England has given its wholehearted endorsement to our beautiful new holiday homes,” says the Budock Vean’s owner Martin Barlow, one of three generations of the family involved in the hotel, whose idea it was to create a real grand design with state of the art facilities - which would enhance, not detract from, the idyllic setting.

“Really outstanding places for people to spend their precious holidays are hard enough to come by, but we’ve created just that in our own little bit of Cornish paradise and it’s fantastic to know that the highest tourism authority in the land agrees that we’ve done a great job!”

Attention to detail comes from the ground up: a high-spec eco-design and build with pale wooden floors, cosy wood-burners and enviable bathrooms and kitchens (complete with wine fridges). The calm colour palates, contemporary furniture and sumptuous beds and furnishings are the work of interior designer Steve Coombe from 3idog – the man behind a major on-going refurbishment of the Budock Vean itself.

“Our team of designers and builders led by Steve with RTP Surveyors and Nova Construction have been fantastic and we worked so carefully on our plans because we knew we had to get these homes absolutely right – something we can be proud of. Now we can get on with absolute confidence to build our second pair of new Helford boltholes.”

Sarah Jansons was one of the first guests to stay in “Grebe”, declaring that the photos cannot do it justice: “The fit-out is beautiful, high quality and uncluttered and everything you could possibly need is provided. The beds are fantastic too. Only one disappointment – the week we stayed it was too warm to light the log burner! We will definitely book one of these again.”

Work on two further Budock Vean holiday homes in this first phase is poised to begin with plans for other small clusters around the hotel’s 65 acres in the development stages. Like the first they are sold on a managed-lease basis – maintained, managed and let by the Budock Vean team, guaranteeing a regular income when owners are not staying themselves.

“Our hotel guests come back year after year and they are well aware of what a break at the Budock Vean is all about,” says Martin. “Our walks, river, beaches and seas are all very precious and our luxury “5 Gold Star” houses are adding another dimension to what we can offer – in keeping with the quality and sensitivity of our natural surroundings.”
