Guests with special requirements

Arrival at the hotel and Reception

As you drive up to the hotel front entrance we have two disabled parking spaces opposite the front door (unmarked). The front entrance does not have any steps and is easily accessible, although both doors may need to be opened.

At Reception, check-in can be aided with the use of a clipboard, magnifying glass and special arthritic pens if required. We can also enlarge the registration form. The Reception desk has an induction loop to aid those with hearing difficulties. Check-in can also be carried out in the bedroom if required.

The Cocktail Bar, Conservatory, all three Lounges and Health Spa are all on the same level as Reception.

The public toilets including a disabled toilet are also on this same level. Non-resident guests and visitors who come to the hotel for Sunday Lunch, Bar Snacks, Afternoon Tea and Health Spa Treatments will find that all of these facilities are accessed easily. We are very happy to provide Sunday Lunch in the conservatory if appropriate. We do not have any ground floor bedrooms and access from Reception, Cocktail Bar and Lounges to the lift means negotiating eight steps. Our staff are happy to assist guests. To overcome this, we have a reserved disabled parking space to the rear of the hotel, which is marked.

Guests can access the hotel via an alternative entrance at the rear of the hotel, next to the reserved parking space, using the permanent ramp and the lift is just inside the building.

Golf Bar and Shop

Also located next to the lift, on the ground floor of this part of the hotel, is the Golf Shop and Bar, as well as the Golf Bag Room and direct access to the putting green and 1st tee.

Hotel Accommodation

We have one specifically designed disabled room which is easily accessible from the lift. In the room all switches and sockets are approximately 900mm above the floor for ease of reach. The bathroom has been specially designed and includes a walk-in shower with seat. The room also contains two emergency cords which are linked to Reception.

We have taken steps to keep this room available for as long as possible for guests’ with special needs so it can be offered when requested. However, we cannot always guarantee its availability.

The hotel also has 4 self catering cottages which are situated fifty metres from the hotel front entrance. They all have allocated parking and all of the rooms are on one level. Ramps are available for access through the front entrance, if required.

Dining in the Hotel Our Restaurant is on 2 levels. To access the main dining room from the Cocktail bar and Lounges, it is necessary to descend 6 steps. Staff are readily available to assist. Alternatively our Country Club Room and the lower part of the main dining room can be accessed on the same level from the lift and via the Golf Bar.

The main part of the dining room can also be accessed via this route by ascending 3 steps. Again staff are ready and willing to assist wherever required. Our evening menus can be provided in a larger font.

We have specially designed arthritic cutlery available and we can cater for a whole range of special dietary requirements including celiac, gluten free, vegetarian and also for guests who make us aware of any allergies they may have. We routinely carry a stock of gluten free breads and biscuits and have also sourced gluten free and vegetarian desserts when requested. If you do have a special requirement please let us know and we will do our utmost to provide you with what you want.

Swimming Pool

Our swimming pool has 3 different access points. Firstly it can be accessed from the main lounges, through the Health Spa and there are 9 steps to descend. Secondly, from the outside through our Members Entrance Door, where there are an additional 2 steps to ascend. Finally, through the French doors which can be accessed from the hotel gardens. Again staff are happy to assist wherever necessary, including helping enter the pool itself if required.

Grounds, Gardens and Golf Course

Much of the hotel grounds and gardens can be accessed on paths, which are passable both on foot and by buggy. We are always delighted to put one of our electric buggies with driver at the disposal of guests to help them explore the foreshore and other parts of our 65 acre estate at a pre-arranged time.

We are also a partner in the new Helford River Ferry. This is a purpose built catamaran, which can land directly on the beach enabling passengers to embark and disembark via its front lifting ramp. The Ferry can collect guests from the hotels’ foreshore and deliver them to for example Glendurgan Gardens. Bookings can be arranged via Reception. Fire and Emergency Procedures

We would draw all our guests’ attention to the special notice which can be found at the beginning of the Guest Directory, a copy of which is in every bedroom and cottage. It reads:

To help us make your stay as comfortable as possible, we would be grateful if you could inform Reception if your answer is No to any of the following questions:

  • Would you be able to hear a fire alarm bell ringing during the day or night?
  • Would you be able to leave your room quickly and unaided in the event of an emergency?
  • Have you informed the hotel of any disabilities or special requirements you may have that could affect your stay at the hotel?

To assist us in ensuring the safety of all our guests in the event of an emergency evacuation, we would kindly ask guests to take the time to read this notice and communicate any special requirements to Reception. This information is then shared with all senior staff of the hotel and in particular Day and Night Porters, so that the appropriate steps can be taken to alert guests to the existence of an emergency and to assist guests in a safe evacuation of the building. Areas of relative safety have been identified and marked in the building. These are areas, where, in the case of an emergency, wheelchair users or anyone who has limited mobility can take refuge whist awaiting assistance to evacuate the building.
